About Longfish Gardens
Longfish Gardens is a growing gardening initiative based in Six Nations of the Grand River, founded by Amy Sandy. Rooted in a passion for food, nature, and education, our mission is to reconnect people with the land while promoting sustainable gardening practices.
We focus on growing food, supporting native plants and pollinators, and sharing knowledge that helps make gardening accessible to everyone, regardless of experience.
By encouraging people to grow their own food and create wildlife-friendly spaces, we hope to inspire healthier communities and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
What began as a small-scale gardening project continues to grow with a vision of expanding educational opportunities, supporting environmental stewardship, and helping more people build confidence in growing their own food and caring for the natural world.
Whether you’re planting your first seed or have been gardening for years, we believe every garden—big or small—has the power to nourish people, support wildlife, and strengthen our connection to the land.
Meet the Gardener
Hi, I’m Amy!
I’m the person behind Longfish Gardens.
My passion for gardening began with a curiosity about how plants grow, and has since grown into a deeper interest in food sovereignty.
With a background in horticulture and a love for hands-on learning, I created Longfish Gardens as a place to share what I’m learning along the way.
I’m currently continuing my horticultural education while working toward becoming a more knowledgeable gardener, educator, and steward of the land.
I believe gardening doesn’t have to be complicated or intimidating. Whether you’re growing your first tomato, planting a pollinator garden, saving seeds, or simply learning to recognize the plants around you, there’s always an opportunity to learn something new!

What We Believe
Growing Food Matters
Growing even a small amount of our own food can help us better understand where our food comes from and strengthen our connection to the land.
Native Plants Matter
Native plants provide essential habitat and food for pollinators and wildlife. Creating space for them—even in small gardens—can make a difference.
Biodiversity Matters
Healthy gardens are full of life. We aim to grow in ways that support pollinators, beneficial insects, birds, soil life, and the wider ecosystem.
Knowledge Is Meant To Be Shared
Gardening is something we learn through doing, observing, asking questions, and sharing what we discover. Longfish Gardens aims to make that knowledge approachable and accessible.
Community Matters
Food and land have always been ways of bringing people together. We want Longfish Gardens to create opportunities for people to learn, grow, and connect with one another.
Where We’re Growing
Longfish Gardens is currently small-scale, with a few raised beds and growing spaces, but the vision is much bigger.
Over time, I hope to expand Longfish Gardens into a space that brings together:
• Food growing
• Native plants
• Seed saving
• Pollinator habitats
• Workshops
• Gardening education
• Community connection
There is always more to learn, and there is always something new growing.
Thank you for being here.
Whether you found Longfish Gardens through a garden post, a workshop, a local food project, or simply because you love plants, I’m glad you’re here.
Let’s grow together!
